We examine what heath literacy is, how it influences adherence, how health literacy is measured and how cultural and intersectionality shape adherence. We explore the World Health Organisation\u2019s Multidimensional Adherence Model that outlines the multiplicity of factors that can impact on medication adherence. We then consider medication adherence in relation to ethnicity, religious beliefs, chronic disease and healthcare system issues. We consider ways in which medication adherence can be improved and examine the hierarchical model for medication adherence (Unni &amp; Bae, 2022).
