Fingerprints
This chapter covering fingerprint evidence is our first directly related to pattern evidence. Analysis of pattern evidence usually involves successive classification as we have seen in earlier chapters. Fingerprints are analyzed using Q vs K comparisons as we saw with DNA, leading ideally to the linkage of the evidence to an individual. As with DNA, this is not as simple as calling a match and we will discuss how probabilistic evaluations are being developed for latent print comparisons.
