Shoeprint and tire impressions are another example of pattern evidence analyzed by successive classification. Wear characteristics play a larger role in forensic analysis.  Recovering these impressions can be more complicated given that surfaces can be indoor or outdoor in media such as snow, mud, and sand.  As we will see, visualizing, photographing, and recovering these impressions can be challenging.
