Chapter 10: Tense


Instructions

Chapter 10 has six sets of exercises, with corresponding instructions for each exercise below. 

Answers must use the appropriate capitalization/case, punctuation, and accents to be considered correct. Answers must be typed in lower case (except for initial capital letters a sentence) and use a full stop at the end of a sentence. Other examples of correct punctuation include putting a space before exclamation marks / question marks / semi-colons / colons in French; using French guillemets; putting titles (including film titles) in italics, and so on.

Exercise 1: Functions of the present tense (multiple choice)

Identify the functions of the present tense in each sentence. Select the most appropriate label.

Exercise 2: Compound past (perfect), imperfect and pluperfect: formation and distinction (write-in)

Complete each sentence by conjugating the verbs in brackets in the appropriate past tense. Type only the verb/s (and not its/their subject).

Exercise 3: Future tenses: simple and compound (multiple choice)

Complete each sentence by selecting the verb/s in the appropriate tense/s.

Exercise 4: Uses of the conditional (multiple choice)

Complete each hypothetical statement by selecting the verbs in the appropriate tenses.

Exercise 5: Tenses with ‘depuis’ (multiple choice)

Complete each hypothetical statement by selecting the verbs in the appropriate tenses.

Exercise 6: Sequence of tenses with ‘si’ (write-in)

Complete each sentence by translating the verb in brackets in the appropriate tense. Type only the verb in the answer box. Where two verbs are required, separate them with a forward slash (/).
