Instructions
Chapter 15 has five sets of exercises, with corresponding instructions for each exercise below.
Answers must use the appropriate capitalization/case, punctuation, and accents to be considered correct. Answers must be typed in lower case (except for initial capital letters a sentence) and use a full stop at the end of a sentence. Other examples of correct punctuation include putting a space before exclamation marks / question marks / semi-colons / colons in French; using French guillemets; putting titles (including film titles) in italics, and so on.
Exercise 1: qui and que (write-in)
Complete each sentence by typing the correct missing relative pronoun/s – qui or que or qu’.
Exercise 2: Relative pronouns: preposition + qui and preposition + lequel (write-in)
Complete each sentence by typing the correct missing relative pronoun – qui or the appropriate form of lequel. Combine prepositions and relative pronouns where necessary. For example, Je vous présente les deux professeurs grâce à ________ j’ai appris le français. = auxquels. Type only the relative pronoun in the answer box.
Exercise 3: Relative pronouns: dont and duquel (write-in)
Complete each sentence by typing the correct missing relative pronoun – dont or the appropriate form of duquel. Combine prepositions and relative pronouns where necessary. For example, L’édifice à côté de ________ j’habite est un ancien entrepôt. = duquel. Type only the relative pronoun in the answer box.
Exercise 4: Relative pronouns: ce qui, ce que, ce dont, ce à quoi, etc. (multiple choice)
Select the appropriate relative pronoun to complete each sentence.
Exercise 5: Translation of ‘whoever’, ‘whatever’, ‘whichever’ and ‘however’ (multiple choice)
Complete each sentence by translating the words in brackets and selecting the appropriate form from the choices given.
