Instructions
Chapter 6 has 12 sets of exercises, with corresponding instructions for each exercise below.
Answers must use the appropriate capitalization/case, punctuation, and accents to be considered correct. Answers must be typed in lower case (except for initial capital letters a sentence) and use a full stop at the end of a sentence. Other examples of correct punctuation include putting a space before exclamation marks / question marks / semi-colons / colons in French; using French guillemets; putting titles (including film titles) in italics, and so on.
Exercise 1: Cardinal numbers: recognition (write-in)
Re-write the numerical words in Arabic numerals. For example, deux = 2. Ensure you use the correct spaces with numbers of 7 or more digits!
Exercise 2: Cardinal numbers: recognition and spelling (write-in)
Re-write the Arabic numerals in French words. For example, 2 = deux.
Exercise 3: Translation of ‘number’ (multiple choice)
Select the correct French word for number/s in each sentence.
Exercise 4: Use of ‘en’ when numbers are direct objects (write-in)
Re-write each sentence by substituting the pronoun ‘en’ for the underlined direct object. For example, Je prends deux stylos. = J’en prends deux.
Exercise 5: Ordinals, fractions, decimals and equations (write-in)
Re-write each numerical form and expression in French words. For example, ¼ = un quart.
Exercise 6: Ordinals with titles of dignitaries (multiple choice)
Select the correct French form for the dignitaries from the options provided. Some of the proper nouns may also need to be translated.
Exercise 7: Order of cardinal numbers and adjectives (write-in)
Translate each phrase into French.
Exercise 8: Hundreds, thousands, millions, billions (multiple choice)
Select the correct form of the numerical expressions indicated from the options provided.
Exercise 9: Measurements (multiple choice)
Select the correct answer to complete each sentence to make the facts true.
Exercise 10: Approximate numbers (write-in)
Complete each sentence by translating the number expressions in brackets. Type only the missing section.
Exercise 11: Dates, times and money (write-in)
Re-write each date and time in words in French. Be careful to distinguish between capital and lowercase letters, and insert definite articles (le/la) where necessary. For example, Monday, 5th May = lundi, le 5. mai; quarter past two = deux heures et quart.
Exercise 12: Quantifiers (write-in)
Translate the words in brackets to complete each sentence. Type the quantifier and the determiner (where necessary) in the boxes. For example, Il y a ________ (lots of) arbres. = beaucoup d’.
Characters
Some write-in answers may require you to include the following characters:
à, â, ç, Ç, é, è, ê, ë, î, ô, û and œ.
