Chapter 7: Verb Forms


Instructions

Chapter 7 has nine sets of exercises, with corresponding instructions for each exercise below. 

Answers must use the appropriate capitalization/case, punctuation, and accents to be considered correct. Answers must be typed in lower case (except for initial capital letters a sentence) and use a full stop at the end of a sentence. Other examples of correct punctuation include putting a space before exclamation marks / question marks / semi-colons / colons in French; using French guillemets; putting titles (including film titles) in italics, and so on.

Exercise 1: Simple and compound tenses: recognition (multiple choice)

Identify the tense (finite form) of the regular verb regarder in each example and select the appropriate label. Each verb has been conjugated with the third person singular subject il.

Exercise 2: Non-finite verb forms: recognition (multiple choice)

Identify the (non-finite) form of the regular verb regarder in each example and select the appropriate label.

Exercise 3: Present tense: regular verb formation (write-in)

Complete each sentence by conjugating the infinitive verb in brackets in the present tense with the subject indicated. Type only the verb in the answer box.

Exercise 4: Imperfect tense: regular verb formation (write-in)

Complete each sentence by conjugating the infinitive verb in brackets in the imperfect tense with the subject indicated. Type only the verb in the answer box.

Exercise 5: Simple past (past historic) tense: recognition and formation (multiple choice)

Select the most appropriate translation of commonly encountered past historic verbs.

Exercise 6: Simple future and conditional tenses: regular verb formation (write-in)

Complete each sentence by conjugating the infinitive verb in brackets in the tense specified with the subject indicated. Type only the verb in the answer box.

Exercise 7: Present subjunctive: regular verb formation (write-in)

Complete each sentence by conjugating the infinitive verb in brackets in the present subjunctive with the subject indicated. Type only the verb in the answer box.

Exercise 8: Imperative: formation (write-in)

Transform each infinitive into imperative form according to the subject specified. Type your translations of the verbs in the answer boxes.

Exercise 9: Present tense: irregular verb formation (write-in)

Complete each sentence by conjugating the infinitive verb in brackets in the present tense with the subject indicated. Type only the verb in the answer box.
