The final images shown here reveal the effects of digitization from a large-pixel toy video camera and projection onto the television screen. The faces are at least ten degrees of separation from the originals, yet each retains recognizable features of a unique individual. Each print is overlaid with a hand-written alphanumeric code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.routledge.com\/reframingphotography\/files\/user\/lovas_TenDegrees_Detail4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.routledge.com\/reframingphotography\/files\/user\/lovas_Ten_Degrees_Detail3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kathy Lovas,&nbsp;<em>book drop<\/em>, 2010<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the month of October 2010 twenty-eight plaster books (one per day) were cast, photographed, and the pictures posted on Facebook for twenty-eight days leading up to the actual installation at Mountain View College, Dallas, TX. On October 31, 2010 the books were transported to MVC and placed in random locations along the beautiful creek that runs through the campus. Each was photographed again, its location recorded, and the pictures again posted on Facebook. On December 1, 2010 eleven of the original 28 books were retrieved from<br>MVC. Almost 2\/3 of the books had disappeared completely. Most of the remaining books had been relocated and rearranged into new mini-installations. One book had been broken and put back together like a puzzle. Only a single book was still in its original location &#8211;<br>on the corner of a blue picnic bench. The house was owned by a paper mill, for which my grandfather worked. Objects depicted in a group of family photographs enabled me to map the property and pinpoint the exact<br>location where the house had been. I am interested in the fact that the photographs functioned differently for me from their original purpose of documenting family life. The materials I have used in this series are both personal and symbolic; all relate to the house and mill.
